The Fellowship Program
Overview
The SCB Fellowship Program is a year-long program aiming to expose students to the issues of conflict and post-conflict regions. The program is designed to push students academically, mentally and above all personally. Students will have the opportunity to reflect on their own beliefs regarding the issues in the region, questioning their own perspectives and ultimately gaining a greater understanding for the issues that will define our generation and our future.
Students will work closely with their campus Program Leadership Team during the spring semester to prepare for the summer internship. The ultimate excitement of the program, however, comes from the great independence we allow the Fellows in shaping their once in a lifetime opportunity! Fellows will receive stipends to intern in the summer for an organization of their choosing (the campus Leadership Team will help in searching for an appropriate internship site).
To this end, the Fellowship consists of three main parts:
- Academic Preparation: students will meet weekly with their campus Program Leadership Team to study questions of leadership, teambuilding, internship hunting, and research into the major issues of the regions to which the Fellows will be traveling.
- Internship: during the summer, the SCB Fellows will have the opportunity to go to a conflict or post-conflict region, interning for organizations in varying fields; fellows will also help the community in various respects: community organizing, protests and demonstrations, tutoring and mentoring, among other ways. The minimum length of the internship is 8 weeks.
- Awareness Project: upon their return to their campus, Fellows will be responsible for disseminating their experiences to the campus, individually and as a group; Fellows will work closely with their Program Leadership Teams to fulfill this aspect of the program
Lastly, students will be organized in groups throughout the Fellowship experience. The "group dynamic" is integral to the SCB experience, allowing students to bring their own knowledge and perspectives to the group, as well as acting as a support group throughout the program.
NOTE: IMPORTANT CHANGE for Internship - We are no longer requiring applicants to find an organization prior to applying. Instead, the campus Program Leadership Team will work with you throughout the spring semester to find an internship site.
