  • Israel / Palestinian Territories 2010

    February 14, 2010 - December 15, 2010

    This program is in one of the most controversial regions of the world today. The program will allow students to immerse themselves in personal and cultural stories and experiencing the daily influences on both sides of this conflict.

    Last year, students travelled to Jerusalem and Haifa.  Internships included working with Arab-Israelis, demolitions of housing, and working with women identity issues.

  • Mexico / United States Border 2010

    February 14, 2010 - December 15, 2010

    This program will allow students the opportunity to explore the border issues that exist in two sister cities. Students will observe firsthand the cultures, clashing and coalescing as they will live in Mexico or a US border state. The applicant should have some familiarity with Spanish.

    Last year, students travelled to El Paso, TX and Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. Internships included helping in community organizing for Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center, working with various immigrant issues at the Annunciation House or creating a women empowerment camp.

  • Israel / Palestinian Territories 2008-2009

    November 1, 2008 - December 15, 2009

    In one of the most controversial regions today, this program will allow students to immerse themselves in personal and cultural stories and experiencing the daily influences on both sides of this 60 year old conflict. The program will take place in Jerusalem and the surrounding area. Fellows will be responsible for finding an internship of his/her choice in this region.

    Fellows will receive a stipend of $ 4,000 provided by former President Jimmy Carter. This funding will cover travel, basic living expenses, and other expenses associated with the internship. Fellows for this program need not apply to other on-campus funding programs; their $4000 funding is guaranteed by the Carter grant.

  • Mexico / US 2008-2009

    November 1, 2008 - December 15, 2009

    This program will allow students the opportunity to explore these problems by experiencing cutltures on both sides of the border. Students will observe first hand the culture, clashing and coalescing as they will live in Mexico or a US border state. The applicant will be responsible for finding an internship of his/her choice in this region.

  • Israel / Palestinian Territories 2007-2008

    October 1, 2007 - May 1, 2008

    In February 2008, eleven Brandeis students traveled across Israel and the West Bank to personally explore the nature of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The delegation visited a number of areas including Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Neve Shalom, Hebron, Ramallah, Dheisheh Refugee Camp and Bethlehem.

    The trip was funded by former President Jimmy Carter and the Maurice J. and Fay B. Karpf Peace Awards.
